Tasking Request

A tasking request represents the needs of a customer for satellite data products. Tasking requests can be either Manual or Automated.

Manual Tasking

A tasking mode that allows customers to select the exact activities and images that they would like to purchase.

Automated Tasking

A tasking mode that allows the customer to provide top level requirements of their needs and lets Open Cosmos select the specific activities that will meet the requirements.

Opportunity

A satellite opportunity arises when a given satellite has visibility over a defined area of interest, and adheres to any imposed constraints.

Activity

A satellite activity is a specific task that a satellite will perform, often involving the operation of on on-board instrument. In the tasking concept it will usually be to capture imagery to satisfy a user request. Multiple activities might be necessary to satisfy a single request.

Field of Regard

A field of regard is the area that a satellite can feasibly capture, taking into account their roll capability. A satellite is never able to capture the full extent of a field of regard during the same satellite activity, instead a defined roll angle must be selected which defines a swath.

Swath

A swath is the geographic area that an imaging instrument would capture during a satellite activity.
