Data Layers

After selecting an image from the search results menu, users can modify the appearance of that image and any other raster (images) or vector (shapes/features) layers through the layers menu. Users can access the layers menu by selecting the layers tab in the right-hand taskbar.

This video demonstrates how to access the layers menu, and display different spectral bands.

In this section, we will explain how to use the various elements within the layers menu. This includes:

Layer ordering

Users can view multiple images and vector layers simultaneously within the data viewer. To access obscured layers, users can utilise the data layers menu to toggle the visibility of overlapping layers or reorder them to display the desired layer fully. For quick navigation, the Center on Image icon allows users to move the viewer to the selected layer. These functions are applicable to both image and vector layers.

Colour-correction

In the DataCosmos platform, users can apply various color correction techniques to the selected image. These techniques include adjustments to opacity, brightness, saturation, contrast, and bias. Each parameter is controlled via a value slider that automatically updates the image in the main viewer.

On data products with an image processing level of Level 1A and above, these adjustments can be applied to all available image layers (spectral bands). This includes individual spectral bands, viewable as greyscale images, and true color Red Green Blue (RGB) composite images, which can be selected from the layers dropdown menu under each data product.

Data Symbology

Data symbology can applied to vector layers / features created, or imported into DataCosmos.

Once a user creates a feature using the vector tool, they can highlight that feature by customising its symbology, by changing its colour or opacity.

Time Series

Many locations will have multiple images from various satellites through the DataCosmos archives. These images can be viewed as a time series within the data layers toolbar.

Once a user has selected to view multiple images from the search results menu, they can enable the Time Series tool from the data layers toolbar.

This will create a timeline slider at the bottom of the data viewer.

By dragging to pointer along this timeline, each of the avalible images will appear once the slider has crossed the observation date.
